I guess the Italic comes with a higher level of «markedness» to begin with and can get away with a bit more attitude than the Roman.1 -

I would advise against modifying Arial, since that's no doubt highly illegal. Just start a new font file, or use a libre font as a basis if you have to.1 -

For the /n/: I believe you're trying too hard to preserve some of the «perfect» circular arc there. In order to look right, the arch has to be asymmetric, and its apex must lie on the right side…1 -

Hmmm, you probably have a point there. I've made some test O's with –9 (current), –11, –13, –15 points of overshoot. I'm leaning towards the middle two. Perhaps I should go with –12?1
